About Larne

Larne is a seaport and industrial town on the east coast of Antrim county of Northern Ireland, with a ferry link to Western Scotland. The name Larne is derived from 'the lands of Irish prince Lathar'. The famous and beautiful Antrim Coastal Road stretches for about 36 miles from Larne, showing off spectacular limestone coastline.

A monument in Curran Park commemorates the first emigrant ship 'The Friends Goodwill' which started the Irish immigration flood to America in 1717. Larne was affected by the Irish Famine of the mid-19th century. The town has also played a role in transport and distribution of arms in the resistance to the Home Rule Act 1914.

The town offers shops, few parks like Carnfunnock Country Park and several recreational activities. Several other tourist attractions include First Larne Presbyterian Church, Larne Museum, John Clifford Gallery, Larne Drama Circle, Larne Art Club and Larne & District Historical Society.
