About Pembroke

The ferry port of Pembroke Dock is a separate town from Pembroke, formed in 1814 when a Naval Dockyard was established in Pembroke. Pembroke means ‘Land’s End’ in Welsh, as it is situated on the south-eastern tip of Wales.

The mediaeval Pembroke Castle is situated on the banks of river Pembroke where King Henry VII was born. The two gun towers, one on an island in the waterway and the other in the north-eastern corner in the dock, called ‘Martello Towers’ are a tourist attraction. The eastern tower is turned into a museum.

Canoeing in Pembroke Dock is a mighty popular activity. Pembrokeshire Watersports is a Pembrokeshire County Council’s non-profit-making project committed to developing a marine leisure industry and watersports related tourism in Pembrokeshire. The new Pembrokeshire Activity Centre on Cleddau riverbank offers great outdoor activities, especially to the young people, and is busiest during January to November.

Pembrokeshire National Park is simply spectacular with its varied physical features, an exciting place for wildlife enthusiasts and offers guided walks which take a person to the most beautiful places. South Pembrokeshire Golf Club, located on a hilltop overlooking the town of Pembroke Dock, makes for an ideal golfing holiday.
