About St. Margaret's Hope

Situated at the Northern part of South Ronaldsay, St. Margaret’s Hope is the third largest town in the Orkney Islands. During the 1800s the herring fishery was established and later on the growth of St. Margaret’s Hope was further consolidated due to the establishment of a naval base in Scapa Flow during the two world wars.

St. Margaret’s Hope has a lot on offer to the visitors. Apart from an amazing waterfront and streets which are reminiscent of the past, a visit to William Hourston Smiddy Museum, which encapsulates the daily life of a village blacksmith, is highly recommended. Orkney Heritage gives more information about the nearby attractions.
