About West Cowes

Cowes is situated on the south of Southampton on the Island of Wight. An estuary of the river Medina separates it from its sister city, the East Cowes.

Cowes is more famous for its yachting venues and as a home to Royal Yacht Squadron. A distinct feature at the island is the sound of 22 small cannons which start the races and are placed on the curved platform in West Cowes where the Royal Yacht Squadron has its headquarters. Cowes castle and the esplanade are the other two of its famous landmarks.
