Dun Laoghaire

Dun Laoghaire lies on the east coast of Ireland and is just 12 km south of Dublin. Dun Laoghaire derives its name from two words: Dun – a fort in Irish and the name of King Laoghaire who is said to have allowed St. Patrick to travel across the country in order to preach Christianity.

It is famous for its sprawling promenade along the coast which is also known as the East Pier. The other places of interest are Dún Laoghaire Library, National Maritime Museum and the People’s Park.

Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company operates the harbour facilities.
